It's My Most Favorite Post of the Year!

(Did you read that to the tune of The Most Wonderful Time of the Year a la Bing Crosby?  I did.)

Here we are, the end of December/beginning of January again.  I love these review-the-whole-year-in-one-post type posts that everybody does!  It's so much fun to look back and see what you did (or didn't do!) so easily.

My goal for Eating Crow Pie this next year is shorter, more frequent postings instead of some great, big something every once in a blue moon like I've been doing.  That should make it easier on us all, right?

Also, here are a few years past if you want to read them- 2013, 2012, and 2011.

2014
January- Mayhem was 43, 44, 45, 46, and 47 weeks old, 10 months old, and remember it or not was once not a human garbage disposal.

February- Mayhem was 48, 50, and 51 weeks old, 11 months old, we did some stuff, and I wrote a flop of a book review.

March- Mayhem was 52 weeks old, we celebrated his first birthday with a party, I decluttered a little, we anticipated spring, and cut Mayhem's hair.

April- I did some gardening, Mayhem was 13 months old, I made bread, and it was Easter.

May- Mayhem was 14 months old, puny, and doing usual boy stuff, I had spring fever and tried to menu plan, and we had a busy weekend.

June- I made a quilt for Mayhem, he was 15 months old, and I was tired.

July- We went to a wedding, Mayhem was 16 months old, and I had a nightmare.

August- I thought about narcissism, finally shared some news, and Mayhem was 17 months old.

September- Mayhem was 18 months old, we took him to the doctor, and Frank came back inside.

October- Mayhem was 19 months old and I answered a big question.

November- It was finally November, Mayhem was 20 months old, and we moved.

December- I shared our apartment and what we'd been doing all month.

So, how was your year?  Anything to share?

Mayhem in December

December, of course, has been super, crazy busy, but fun.  Here's a little, long post of pictures to catch us up.

I love watching him sleep.

I'm a little obsessed.

We watched a Christmas parade in 60 degree weather.

Mayhem really enjoyed all the beads and candy thrown at him.  He throws the beads around the house yelling, "Throw!  Beads!"

We taped our Jesse tree ornaments on the fridge.

He's such a goofball.  He refused to take a serious picture in front of the tree.  I don't know how many mornings I tried to get one.  They're all silly faces or him running away.

He looks like such a teenager!

This was breakfast one morning.

This was that night at the ER.  I picked him up from the nursery after church, he cried all the way home until he threw up.  He cried and screamed at home for two hours, grabbing his ears, "Hurt!  Hurt!"  We decided we were not going to live until morning so we packed up and hauled off to the hospital.  ER doc said no ear infection, just uncomfortable from a cold.

Not having a good night at all.

He didn't seem too sick at the doctor's office the next morning, did he?

Silly boy flopping around on the paper.

His doctor declared that he did have an ear infection.  We got meds and an invitation to bring him back in two weeks.

Uncle or not, a man in a Santa suit is just not cool!

But he's easier to handle from a bit of a distance!

Another parade- more beads, more candy, more cold!

A few days later he got a cold, complete with 12 hour fever that took me back to holding him as a little baby.  He's not real cuddly these days because he's too busy playing and running around so it was a nice change even if I was covered in snot and baby sweat.

He felt better before too long though, bouncing and flopping all over the couch like some wild animal.

One night he decided he really needed to try on Daddy's boots.  I thought this might be a good indication of his possible excitement over the boots we were giving him for Christmas...no.

He saw this cow at Chik Fil A and just jumped up there like he knew what to do even though the seat was at head-height.  The girl at the table behind him was a little nervous and she appointed herself his spotter.  Getting him down was a little difficult...

His eyes look HUGE first thing in the morning.

Meet "Bite," Mayhem's Christmas fish!  I have him on video when he first saw the fish and yelled, "Bite!" so we kinda figured that should be his name.

I'm worried about Bite.  There have been attempts to feed him carpet fuzz and broken chips and pour juice down the food hole.  I just don't know if he's gonna make it...

Opening presents Christmas morning was so much fun!  Mayhem is the world's slowest present opener, pulling off about a square inch of paper at a time, which gets stuck to his sticky fingers, so then he is flopping his hands around trying to get it off before moving on to the next square inch and repeat until somebody feels the need to tear a big piece for him to speed this show up a little.

The boots...  That face says it all.  It probably took us ten minutes to get his feet squished in them, he wouldn't point his toes to slide them on.  Then he wouldn't walk.  Not quite the reaction I expected.

Later that day he decided he might as well wear them, but he walked around like an old broke down cowboy for a little while.  He pulls them off every time we're in the car, but he did that with his other pair of shoes, too.

The morning after Christmas we went back to the doctor for our scheduled recheck of his ears.  I heard him hollering, "Whoa!  Whoa!" while I was getting ready and I knew the fish was poured out on the floor, gasping for air.  Thankfully, it was just a foot stuck in a wagon handle.

On the cow again (wearing the same outfit!) after breakfast at Chik Fil A.

Clowning, waiting to see the doctor.

We finally completed our Jesse tree, two days late, but he doesn't know, right?

Messy Apartment

Have you been on a virtual house tour before?  The ones with the pillows on the couch placed just so and the not half-dead plants?  Well, this is not that.  If I wait until things look like that you will never get to see anything because it's just not going to happen.  This isn't Pinterest, y'all, this is real life.  I've tried to cute things up, but I still have a lot to work on.  In the words of my daddy, "I ain't but one (wo)man and I can't do but one (wo)man's job."  Tired of waiting, I just grabbed the camera after nap time today and took a few quick pictures because you have to start somewhere, right?

Here we are, come on in!

As soon as you step in the door to your right you see our living room.

To your left you see the dining room/kitchen.  And Mayhem.

Living room again.

This is my kitchen.  And laundry.

Y'all, if you have a dishwasher go kiss it.  Right now!  That thing is a luxury and you better appreciate it.  I've been asked if I'm cooking less since I have to hand wash everything and no, I'm cooking just as much, I've just really reallllly pared down the things I use.  3 plates, 3 bowls, 3 glasses.  No point in any more unless I have a party or something, which really isn't likely.

The stove is from the 70s.  It's a HotPoint which is the kind we took out of our house when we remodeled.  It must be a good one since it's still going.  Needs recalibrating though because it is HOT! I have no idea how to do that.  It's a pretty basic model, no timer, no window, just the knobs to turn it on.

Like my "H" world book and NatGeo wallpaper?  I just ripped 'em and taped 'em up.

Mayhem again, eating his snack.  My ironing piling up on the chairs.  Christmas books we haven't read and such on top of the freezer.  Our portable home office temporarily residing on the table.

If you look straight ahead from the door you're looking down the hall to the bedrooms, bathroom, and the rug I'm giving to my sister Haley.

Mayhem's room, as close as I can get it to his old room.

The closet doors are ordered they say.  Please hurry!  My eyeballs are suffering!

Bathroom, obviously.

Sink, cabinet, mirror.

Toilet shot!

Mine and Boots' bedroom.  I have intentions to make a headboard after Christmas when things settle back down.

Basket of blankets, Christmas stuff, boxes of books that need going through.

Looking toward our closet and the door.

Oh, yeah.  My curtain rod fell off the wall the other day.  Almost a week ago.  Really need to get on that.  But I'm sick, y'all!  I've got the bronchitis and an infection.  Went to the doctor yesterday (first time in 4.5 years), 3 shots, antibiotics, cough syrup.  Mayhem is not a good nurse.  He refuses to let me sit with a blanket.  I can't figure out what he's yelling while he's pulling it off of me.

Looking back up the hall towards the door.

Our closet.  It's pretty big.  I've got the dining room table, 6 chairs, and the china cabinet packed in there.  Our clothes really need organizing.  Everything is just throwed in there and lucky to even be hanging.

That's it!  Thanks for looking!

Got any suggestions for living in a small space?  Or do you know somebody that lives in the state of Alabama that might want an alarm system?  Ours is still in our old house and I don't like paying for something I'm not using.  Really gotta get that thing moved.
