Week 38

So my idea this week was to take pictures of Mayhem on his stomach on the white blanket in front of the brick wall.

Obviously, that didn't happen.

He was on that blanket about half a second before he popped up and started coming after me!

Look!  Teeth!

Forget the blanket!

Gimme that camera, Mama!

This week Mayhem's age is even: he spent as much time on the inside as he's spent on the outside.  ;)  To celebrate, he's been into everything!  Opening his dresser drawers, snatching books off the shelf, spilling my chai tea latte I just made and only got a sip of.  Yesterday, when I had him in the bathroom with me while I was brushing my teeth he climbed in the cabinet and took a bite out of a roll of toilet paper!

He's got this new little half-sitting scootchy crawl that you can kind of see in the pictures.  He'll lean forward on his hands and knees, pick up and move both hands, drag a knee forward, and then lean back on his bottom.  It's an incredibly slow way to crawl, but faster than sitting and waiting on something to happen.  I can't leave him alone at all anymore unless he's caged!

Rambunctious

If these photos are any indication, things are about to get crazy!

Week 37

I keep telling myself that one day he is going to smile when I point a camera at him instead of giving me  this blank stare I've been getting the past few weeks.

Yesterday I took Mayhem to his 9 month appointment.  Technically he's only 8.5 months old by the calendar, but if you count every 4 weeks as a month he is 9 months old.  Everything was fine- check the ears, listen to his heart, ask how he was eating, give him his second flu shot, blah blah blah.

But the big event, and definitely my favorite, the weigh in!  I was slightly disappointed in my weight-guessing abilities though.  I was going for 21-22 pounds, but the mighty Mayhem weighs a whopping 19 pounds, 15 ounces.  I won't be winning any prizes this time.  I should probably start shopping for a bigger car seat, too, because it only goes up to 30 inches and he's 28 inches long now.  That's 10" growth since birth!  Wow!

My aunt painted me this chair a long, long time ago and now it's just hanging out waiting for Mayhem to grow into it.  I figure I've got a few years until he can read and I have to decide whether or not to paint his name over mine.

Homemade Pretties

I bought this vase a few months ago on clearance at Target for $10.48 and it has been sitting empty waiting on me to fill it since I brought it home. (I left the sticker on and turned it to the back because I'm pretty proud of myself!)
I've been eyeballing artificial floral stems at Hobby Lobby lately, but haven't found anything I liked enough or cheap enough to buy.  Yesterday I decided to just put some sticks in it and call it "done!"  I spent fifteen minutes breaking limbs to an acceptable length and arranging them in my skinny vase so they didn't hang out in anyone's way.
Flowers I can't do, but sticks?  I can!

Just some important dates I'm planning to hang somewhere after I shop the house for a frame that it will fit.

I found one of these buttons in the washing machine and sewed it back on mostly correctly.  If you can't tell why should I?

Week 36

Boots' grandmother made this little jacket and hat that Mayhem is wearing.  I'm not sure it if was specifically for Boots or maybe he and all his brothers wore it.  Boots' mom gave it to me when his parents came to visit after Mayhem was born.  It's super special to me that Mayhem gets to wear something that we wore.

Now where is my red dress?

(kidding!  sort of.)

Radioactive?

What if bugs were able to glow in the dark?  It would make it easier to kill the ones in your house, but it would be too bright to sleep when camping.  It's probably best they don't.

8 Months and Week 35

Oh, Mayhem.  He's just so......different now.  He's growing a little personality and he's just so much fun.

So many changes going on with him this week:
-he rolls from back to front and front to back and all over like some wiggly critter
-he can go from sitting up to down on his belly by himself without banging his face on the floor
-he's pulling up some.  I went in his room Saturday morning and he was standing up in his crib smiling at me.  After I recovered from my mini-heart attack I decided it was definitely time to lower his bed.  Now it's so low I feel like I'm bending over to put him in the floor at night.  He pulls up on the couch and grabs my clothes to haul himself vertical if I'm sitting in the floor with him.
-screaming, so much screaming!  That's his newest thing.  It is so loud and high-pitched I feel like my eardrums are going to start bleeding.  He screams when he's happy, wants attention, sometimes when he's mad, screamingscreamingSCREAMING!  Should I be discouraging this or just hope he forgets it soon?
-he can drag himself around on his belly, but no crawling yet

Daylight savings time sucks.  Babies can't tell time!  He's been waking up an hour earlier and trying to go to bed earlier too.  I'm sure there is some way to ease him into it, but I didn't think about that until it was too late.  He is sleeping all night again though.  Finally!
